About Us

The Walker County Board of REALTORS® was first incorporated in 1972. The Board strives to be noted for vision and cohesiveness; for clarity of thought and inclusiveness. We strive to maintain ever-expanding services to members and work hard to help members be more effective business persons and community leaders.

We are members of the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, denoting our place in the community as participants and contributors. In 2003 we moved our multiple listing service to an Internet-based MLS system with public access via our members websites. The Walker County Board of REALTORS® has come a long way since its inception in 1972 and welcomes its members and the community to be part of its continued progress.

Our Currently Elected Officers

Elected officers of the Board are the President, a President Elect, Secretary, and a Treasurer. They are elected for terms of one year. The governing body of the Board of Directors consisting of the elected officers and 8 REALTOR Members of the Board. (Note: of the 8 REALTOR members 7 shall at minimum be Associate Brokers and principals in their respective firms not including elected officers). Directors shall be elected to serve for terms of three years.

Rhonda is married to Wesley Raines and they are the parents of 4 children, Jessica who attends Maddox Middle School, Ginny and Dani attend Memorial Park School, and Heath attends First Baptist Pre-School. She is the daughter of Everett and Nancy Teske of Oakman and the daughter-in law of Bobby and Helen Raines, owners of Jasper Bowling Center and Oakhill Plaza. Her family attends Sumiton United Methodist Church. Rhonda's husband owns his own heating and cooling business in Jasper. Rhonda serves as secretary of the Jasper Swim Team where her children are actively involved in the swimming program at the new Natatorium.

Tom Byars

Tom Byars is Sr. Vice-President of Byars & Associates, Inc. and serves as the Qualifying Broker of ERA Byars Realty. Tom graduated from Walker High School in 1970. He then attended Walker College before transferring to Auburn University. He graduated from Auburn in 1974 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. He then attended UAB where he obtained a second degree in Education with a major in Physical Education. Upon graduation he went to work with the Walker County Board of Education teaching school and coaching football at Farmstead Jr. High School. In 1978 Tom decided to join the family business and obtained his real estate license. He has since obtained his brokers license, GRI designation in real estate and his Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser designation. Tom is a member of the National Association of Realtors, Alabama Association of Realtors, Walker Board of Realtors, and the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers.

Charlotte Pugh is a graduate of Holly Pond High School in Cullman County. Prior to the real estate business she was employed with the Baptist Health Systems in the marketing department. She is involved with Mt Vernon Baptist Church, a member of National Association of Realtors, Alabama Association of Realtors, Walker Board of Realtors, Walker County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Leadership Walker County Alumni Association and Pilot Club of Jasper. She and her husband Ray have lived in the area for several years and she has 2 children, Julie and Josh, who are the apple of her eye.

Ballard, lifelong resident of Winfield, together they opened Ballard Real Estate in February 1984. Her education includes graduate of Winston Co. High 1972, NW JR. College in Phil Campbell, Wallace State in Hanceville, Graduate of Realtor Institute in 1987. Member of National Assn. of Realtors and AL Assn. Of Realtors for 28 years, top listing agent SE Division Realty World, member Walker Co. Board and MLS. Multi-million dollar producer and CCIM candidate. Fulltime realtor since 1980. Margie is the mother of one son, Brent Gray Ballard, a Med student at UAB.
